ICON Engineering was commissioned by Shell to provide assistance
with the installation of the Skiff platform in the Southern North Sea.
The platform was installed by a jackup drilling rig. This was the first
platform to be installed by this means in the UK sector of the North
Sea. The installed cost was a fraction of that required using conventional methods
The project won the British Government Construction Industry Civil Engineering
Award for 2000 in recognition of the novel design and installation method
which challenged traditional practices.

ICON founders, Garrick Aberle and David Field were respectively the
Project Manager and Designer / Senior Installation Engineer for this
project. The development consists of 4 monopod platforms, two subsea
pipelines and shore based oil separation nad gas sales conditioning
facilities.
The 26 km long, 3 phase, 26” diameter production line and 36 km
long, 6” gas export line were constructed using the beach pulled
/ bottom tow method. At the time, this was one of the longest pipelines
in the world constructed in this manner.
